Details about the Rugby Championship 2022. Below is the report of this year’s Rugby Championship and the teams are Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
After the closure of July Internationals, the focus has shifted to the Rugby Championship of 2022. The four teams will compete with each other in exactly one month for the title.
The Rugby Championship
The Rugby Championship is an international event or tournament contested by four teams, namely, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina every year. Prior to the 2012 tournament, when Argentina joined the Rugby championship, the three other teams were called the Tri Nations.
In 2020, South Africa withdrew from the competition owing to the Covid 19 pandemic resulting in the contesting of the other three teams.
So far New Zealand has won the most number of titles – 18 titles. The “All Blacks” have always dominated the tournament. New Zealand has won Four titles during the Tri Nations tournament between 2005-2008 and have successfully brought the trophy under their name claiming three successive Rugby Championship crowns twice (2012-14 and 2016-18).
In the year 1998, South Africa won the first title. In total they have won 4 titles.
It took until 2000 for Australia to win the title for the first time winning it again in the following year but have won the title only once after Argentina was introduced in 2012.
“Los Pumas” has never won the title of the Rugby Championship.
Schedule
The Rugby Championship of this year commences on 6th August, 2022. South Africa is set to host New Zealand at the Mbombela Stadium while Argentina will be hosting Australia at Mendoza.
Because the tournament format has been restructured, the above mentioned schedule will be replicated. The Springboks will take on the All Blacks in Johannesburg and the Wallabies will face Los Pumas in San Juan.
After a week of inactivity, the Springboks will head to Adelaide to face Australia. On the other hand, Argentina will be meeting the All Blacks in Christchurch on the same day.
There is a replication of the schedule again on 3rd September. New Zealand is set to compete with Argentina in Hamilton while Australia takes on the Springboks in Sydney.
Round five will advance on 15th September, 2022 Thursday when the All Blacks take on the Wallabies at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, and two days later it switches to Buenos Aires, where Argentina host South Africa.
In the final round, this is reversed. New Zealand hosts Australia at Eden Park, and in Durban, South Africa faces Argentina.
