Details about the Bahrain national cricket team
The Bahrain national cricket team is the team representing the country of Bahrain in international cricket. The team is organized and monitored by the Bahrain Cricket Association (BCA). The BCA became an International Cricket Council affiliate member in 2001. The BCA became an associate member of International Cricket Council in 2017.
Cricket was in Bahrain since the early 20th century. The earliest match of Cricket was held in 1932. This match was played between the Royal British Airforce of Bahrain and the Royal British Navy of Bahrain. In 1935, the Awali Cricket Club came into existence by the then British Oil Company. That company is in being with the BAPCO – Bahrain Petroleum Company in the present time.
The Bahraini national cricket team made its first international appearance in 1979. The match was at an invitational tournament with Kuwait, Qatar, and Sharjah (one of the United Arab Emirates).
20th Century
The national cricket team in Bahrain made its first appearance in an Asian Cricket Council tournament at the 2004 Asian Cricket Council Trophy in Malaysia. Bahrain started to play in Asian Cricket Council events from that time. Bahrain made several appearances in World Cricket League tournaments too. But the team was relegated back to regional tournaments after holding the fifth position in the 2013 Division Six.
2018-Present
In April 2018, the International Cricket Council granted full Twenty20 International (T20I) status to all its members. Therefore, all Twenty20 matches played between Bahrain and other International Cricket Council members after 1 January 2019 were a full T20I.
Bahrain debuted its Twenty20 International match on the 20th of January 2019. Bahrain’s national cricket team defeated Saudi Arabia by 41 runs in the 2019 Asian Cricket Council Western Region T20. The mentioned match was at Al Emarat Cricket Stadium, Muscat, Oman.
