Mason Greenwood, the forward for Manchester United, has been removed from Nike’s sponsorship list, according to a statement. This is despite the fact that the 21-year-old changed his Instagram bio recently.
Last week, the Englishman was found not guilty of any rape or assault charges. New evidence was discovered as a result of key witnesses not coming forward. Greenwood has not played for the Red Devils since being arrested in January of last year.
He made a bold change to his Instagram bio, tagging Nike and Manchester United as his sponsors. However, following Mason Greenwood’s arrest, the kit manufacturer ended their sponsorship. They informed The Mirror that they have confirmed that he is no longer an athlete sponsored by:
“Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete.”
In response to the English striker’s acquittal, his club issued the following statement:
“ Manchester United acknowledges the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision to drop all charges against Mason Greenwood. Before deciding on the next steps, the club will now carry out its own procedure. We won’t add any more information until that process is finished.”
Greenwood played his final game on January 22, 2013, when West Ham United defeated him 1-0. He has played for the team 129 times, assisting on 12 goals and scoring 35 goals.
He was removed from FIFA 22 and did not appear in the most recent edition, in addition to Nike ceasing sponsorship of the English striker. Additionally, he was left out of Football Manager 2022.
Mason Greenwood of Manchester United issues a statement after being cleared of all charges.
Following his acquittal on all charges related to the alleged rape and assault of a woman, Mason Greenwood issued a statement. He said, “Through the Sun”:
“ I would like to express my gratitude to my loved ones, friends, and family for their support. I am relieved that this matter is now over. At this time, there will be no further comments.”
Greenwood’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain. The club will look into the situation on its own and decide if he can continue playing for Old Trafford.
Supporters have divergent views regarding the forward’s return to the Red Devils. He is thought to be innocent until proven guilty by some. However, audio and video recordings of his alleged assaults on the woman have been made public, providing a damning glimpse into what may have transpired.
