Mason Mount, a star player for Chelsea, has been urged to leave Liverpool for Newcastle United. Because he will play regularly, Tony Cascarino believes that the Magpies are a better fit for the Englishman.
At Stamford Bridge, Mout has not yet signed a new contract and is approaching the end of his current one. The midfielder has been added to the transfer list because the new owners don’t want to keep players who could leave for free at the end of the season.
On talkSPORT, Cascarino said that the midfielder should think about leaving Chelsea in the summer. He stated that the player would benefit more from regularly playing elsewhere and believed:
“It reaches down to Mason and whether or not he truly likes to remain at Chelsea, a seat on the money, and find himself in and out of teams, as that’s where he is at the moment. Does he agree with that? Most likely not.”
He urged him not to move to Liverpool, saying:
“I don’t know exactly where he will play at Liverpool. This season, will he be positioned behind the center forward [Darwin] Nunez at the top of a three? He will not play on the right because that position belongs to Mohamed Salah. Instead, he will play on the left because Luis Diaz will return.”
Picking Newcastle Joined as the ideal spot for Mount, he added:
“He plays as a central midfielder in attacks. More than just Liverpool will be chasing Mason Mount; He will be pursued by numerous clubs in this country and Europe. Would you be interested in acquiring a player like him if you were Newcastle? I think Mason Mount would fit very well into the way Newcastle plays if you want to become more of a Champions League team. If they really wanted to, I think Newcastle could acquire Mount and Wilf [Zaha] on the left side at the conclusion of the season.”
Why has Mason Mount not renewed his Chelsea contract?
Mason Mount reportedly wants to sign a short contract with Chelsea, whereas the club’s new owners have mandated that players sign long-term contracts. At the club, Reece James, Armando Broja, and all of the new signings have signed contracts that are at least six years long; however, Mount reportedly wants a contract that is only five years long.
