History of the Team – IPL Seasons
The 2008 IPL season
During the first year of the IPL, the Delhi Daredevils beat the Rajasthan Royals and the Deccan Chargers in their first two games. Then, after losing to the Kings XI Punjab, the team beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Chennai Super Kings in their next two games. Finally, in the semi-final, the Rajasthan Royals conquered the Delhi Daredevils and went on to win the tournament.
The 2009 IPL season
During most of the 2009 IPL season, Gautam Gambhir, a former Indian opener from Delhi who was also the team’s captain, led the Daredevils to the top of the table. Sehwag, Gambhir, Dilshan, AB de Villiers, and Manoj Tiwary were all good batsmen for the Daredevils. But even though the Daredevils had the most points during the regular season, they lost in the semi-final when the captain of the Deccan Chargers, Adam Gilchrist, hit the fastest 50 in IPL history at the time.
The 2012 IPL season
After a subpar 2011 season in which they finished last, the Delhi Daredevils showed a new side in the 2012 IPL season. They made a strong comeback after buying players like Afro-English batsman Kevin Pietersen, Sri Lankan batsman Mahela Jayawardene, and New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor. As a result, they were in the first place, and the Kolkata Knight Riders were in second. After Indian opener Virender Sehwag stepped down as captain of the Delhi Daredevils during the 2012 season of the Champions League Twenty20, Mahela Jayawardane was named as the new captain.
The 2013 IPL season
In 2013, the Delhi Daredevils lost their first six games in the IPL. However, they won their first game against the Mumbai Indians in their seventh game. The 161 runs that Virender Sehwag and Mahela Jayawardene put up together helped them beat the Mumbai Indians and win the game. Even though the season wasn’t very good, as the season went on, some big names were added to the support staff. Sir Vivian Richards, one of the best batsmen in West Indies history, was chosen as their new brand ambassador.
The 2014 IPL season
The Delhi Daredevils said on January 10, 2014, before the IPL 2014 auction, that they would not keep any of their current players for season seven. 2014 was yet another bad year for the Delhi Daredevils. 2014 was yet another bad year for the Delhi Daredevils. Again, the Delhi Daredevils came in last.
The 2015 IPL season

The 2016 IPL season
Rahul Dravid, an Indian batsman and the head coach of India U-19, will help the Daredevils improve their batting. Zaheer Khan, who used to be a fast bowler for India, will lead the Delhi Daredevils in the 2016 IPL season. Five of their first seven games were wins, giving them 10 points. They only lost by one run in their second game, which was against a team that had never played before. The Daredevils were the favorites to make the playoffs, but they ended up in a sixth place with 14 points after playing 14 games.
The 2017 IPL season
The Delhi Daredevils finished the season with six wins (+12 points) and eight losses. This put them in sixth place again. In his place, the young Indian batsman Karun Nair took over as captain.
The 2018 IPL season
Shreyas Iyer, Chris Morris, and Rishabh Pant all stayed with the Delhi Daredevils. In order to keep his job as coach of India A and India U-19, Rahul Dravid had to quit his job as a coach. This was because of a conflict of interest debate. The new coach will be Ricky Ponting.
The 2019 IPL season

Sourav Ganguly, who used to be captain of the Indian team, is now an official advisor for Delhi Capitals. The Capitals’ first game of the season was a 37-run win over the three-time champion Mumbai. After seven years, the Capitals made it to the playoffs. They beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by two wickets in their first playoff game. They lost the second game to the Chennai Super Kings by six wickets, and in the playoffs, they came in second, which was their best finish ever.
The 2020 IPL season
Seven of the first nine games in the tournament were won by the team. But they lost four games in a row, which put them in a spot, where losing their last game could mean they don’t make the playoffs. All of the games this season took place in the UAE.
