Deepak Chahar asked why he wants to compete in the West Indies and the United States of America in the June T20 World Cup. The pacer is eligible to be included in the rosters for the T20 World Cup in 2021 and 2022, although he has not yet participated in the main tournament.
In the T20 format, Chahar further emphasized the importance of a lower-order pace-bowling all-around player by stating, “I skipped two (T20) World Cups due to my injuries.” I would have been on the World Cup team too, if I had been healthy. A bowler who can bat at No. 7, 8, or 9 is always needed, regardless of the situation or team lineup. I achieved it and helped the Indian team score runs.”
Deepak Chahar explains his decision to cancel the trip to South Africa
The bowler for Team India, Deepak Chahar, justified his choice to miss the ODI portion of the tour to South Africa due to his father’s brain stroke.
The 31-year-old was included in the tour’s ODI and T20I squads but left the 50-over roster due to a personal issue. India won the One-Day Internationals (ODIs) by a score of 2-1, while the Twenty20 Internationals ended in a 1-1 tie.
In an exclusive interview with PTI, Chahar stated that his father’s choice to forego the South Africa series was simple.
“My father is my primary priority. He is the sole reason I am here. My father is the reason for everything I have accomplished. What sort of son am I if I’m not there for him in such situations? I would have attempted to play if the series had been held in India. If necessary, you can visit the hospital in four to five hours. But it takes two to three days to return to South Africa, clearly,” Chahar remarked.
“Any son would do that,” he said. “It was an easy decision to be with my father.” For twenty-five days, my father and I stayed in the hospital. He wasn’t in Agra. In Aligarh, he was accepted. Everybody had to remain there.”
Although Chahar hasn’t participated in an ODI since December 2022. He did make an appearance in the home Australian series’ last T20I before the South African tour.
