De Minaur’s first-round win at the Wimbledon
De Minaur’s first-round win at the Wimbledon. Alex de Minaur played very well on day two of Wimbledon and won his way into the second round. Hugo Dellien is from Bolivia. It took the Australian just 1 hour and 47 minutes to beat him 6-1, 6-3, and 7-5. The world’s No. 27 played well. He had 24 winners to 15 losers, won 79% of points on his first serve, won 48 receiving points to 28, and broke his opponent’s serve seven times.
After winning the first set easily, De Minaur was down 1-3 in the second set. He then won five games in a row to retake control. In his fourth main draw match at Wimbledon, De Minaur got revenge for losing to Sebastian Korda in the first round last year. He also set up a game with local favorite Jack Draper. Former finalists Marin Cilic and Matteo Berrettini both got COVID-19 and had to drop out of the tournament. This made room for De Minaur. The 23-year-old played the best match of his career in the third round at Wimbledon in 2018. He will see this as a chance to do even better.
The Rise of Minaur
Stefanos Tsitsipas recently said that de Minaur was one of the young players who could stop Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal from being the best. De Minaur won the first set easily. This was true even though he had to save four break points in the first game, which took over 10 minutes. But after that, things went smoothly. He broke the Italian three times in the first set, giving him his second first-set bagel in a grand slam, just like he did against Daniel Taro of Japan at last year’s US Open.
Then, in the second set, he jumped out to a 3-0 lead before the 26-year-old Sicilian broke back. The Sydney player then took the set with another break in the 10th game. However, the third set was closer, and de Minaur had to put in a lot of effort to hold serve at 3-3 after four deuces and win the tiebreak.
