David Warner says people judge him because of his past
David Warner says people judge him because of his past : Former Australian Captain David Warner says people misjudge him for his past. David Warner is one of the opening batsmen in the World and Australia. His love for cricket is not known, he plays with Delhi Capitals in IPL.
The explosive batsman on the field is a family man off the field. However, there was a time when he was surrounded by controversies. In 2018, the ball tampering Scandal got him banned for two years from playing. However, he made a smashing comeback in 2020/21.
In the 2013, champions trophy he got into an argument with Joe Root that resulted in his dismissal from the world cup squad. In the 2018 test against South Africa, he got into an argument with Quinton De Kock. So, he was fined 75% of the match fee.
In a recent interview with Fox Sports, he talks about his past and how people judge him.
He says” if you want to sit down and get to know me and have a beer with me, I am sure your opinion about me will change. If you don’t like me for what you see on tv if you have never met me. I am sure there are guys I have played with who will say yeah he is a great company.
” I know the type of person I am. Have three daughters and a beautiful wife. For me, I am who I am. I think I was always talked about and talked into being aggressive, being that vocal one on the field. Obviously, I did that because it got the best out of me because I was also instructed to be that person.
It gets the team going and all that kind of stuff. Now it’s more about me. For, I have stopped even thinking about what people think about me. Because at the end of the day I am living my life and that’s fair enough.
David talks about the leadership role
Talking about his leadership role in Australia cricket he says “I have not had any conversation about it yet. But look I think at the end of the day any opportunity to become the captain would be a privilege. But from my end, there is a lot of water to go under the bridge. To have that kind of conversation with cricket Australia and my main focus is just playing cricket.”
” I think at the end of the day it’s the kind of questions they are going to ask me. It was almost a completely new Ball game when 2018 happened. I would be interested to see and hear what their thoughts are and then we can probably from there.”
In talking about his achievement he says ” I think to you reflect on and when you finished. Would I like a couple of hundreds? Yeah of course. But at the end of the day winning is what I like and why I play the game. “
100 tests will obviously be great in Melbourne. Again it will reflect on time to sit there and go get the list. These players have even been in conversation with those guys, even greats.”
Warner says about his achievements
” You look at Bradman, he obviously wouldn’t have played that many games but they are things that you don’t look at now on till later on in life I believe. My wife actually found my journal while packing some stuff. I wrote down what I wanted to achieve and when I was going to retire in 2013 but crossed out 2023.”
“I had like 20 test 100, 20 ODI hundred, some T20 hundreds. 6000 runs, 10000 T20 runs. So I have pretty much ticked all of them. So for me going back to 2009 then 2013 labeling all that. I have pretty much accomplished everything I wanted to.
