Daryl Mitchell, New Zealand’s all-rounder, will miss the fifth and final T20I against Pakistan owing to workload management.
In his absence, all-rounder Rachin Ravindra has been called up to the squad, while Devon Conway.
Who missed the fourth T20I after testing positive for COVID-19, will be decided on the morning of the final match on Sunday, January 21.
New Zealand has already taken an unbeatable 4-0 lead in the five-match series,
with their most recent seven-wicket victory coming at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
So far in the series, Daryl Mitchell has been the Blackcaps’ standout player.
He has been a key figure in the middle order, scoring 158 runs in four matches at an average of 52.67 and a strike rate of 183.72.
Daryl is a significant player for us in all three forms, and putting him in the greatest position to excel in international cricket is critical.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead stated that Rachin, who is returning to cricket after a
period of rest will bring a valuable skill set to the group in the final match.
Meanwhile, skipper Kane Williamson is dealing with an injury that has caused him to miss the second half of the series.
Mitchell Santner, an all-rounder who successfully recovered from COVID-19, has led the team in his absence.
Daryl Mitchell – Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand has played 18 Twenty20 Internationals to date
The left-arm all-rounder, who will shortly travel to India for the 2024 IPL, is yet to have a strong grasp on the shortest format.
He wowed everyone with his performance in ODI cricket, but he still needs a defining moment in his T20I career.
Ravindra has 145 runs in 16 Twenty20 International innings, with an average of 13.18 and a strike rate of 117.88.
However, the majority of his performances have occurred when batting in the lower order.
If Conway is unable to appear in the series finale, he might make a case for himself by perhaps beginning the innings.
The last T20I between New Zealand and Pakistan is planned for Sunday, January 21, at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval.
