Czeslaw Michniewicz, the coach of Poland, will resign at the end of the month because the country’s FA (PZPN) decided not to renew his contract following the team’s World Cup defeat in the round of 16.
Czeslaw Michniewicz, the Poland coach, will depart after his contract is not renewed
The PZPN reported that Michniewicz, 52, met with its president Cezary Kulesza and other authorities many times to discuss Poland’s performance at the World Cup in Qatar, where they fell 3-1 to eventual runners-up France in the first knockout round.
The PZPN stated in a statement that it had made the decision not to renew Michniewicz’s contract, which ends at the end of the year, after carefully considering all the available facts.
In appreciation for his 11 months of coaching, Kulesza praised Michniewicz. Portugal’s Paulo Sousa, who requested to be released of his responsibilities in December 2021 after less than a year in command, and Poland parted relations in January, the former Legia Warsaw manager was named.
Kulesza remarked, “As we all know, the coach (Michniewicz) took over the squad at a trying time. “Despite these challenges, he was able to keep (the team’s) spot in the top Nations League teams and secure qualifying to the World Cup.
“He also guided the national squad to its first knockout round in 36 years at the World Cup. Michniewicz must be applauded for this. Prior to losing to France in the round of 16, Poland finished Group C with a 0-0 tie with Mexico, a 2-0 victory over Saudi Arabia, a 2-0 loss to eventual winners Argentina, and a 2-0 loss to Saudi Arabia. As they get ready for the European Championship qualifications, which start in March, the PZPN said that it will start looking for his replacement immediately. Group E’s other members are Moldova, the Czech Republic, the Faroe Islands, and Poland.
