Indian contingent got off to a good start on the first day of the 22nd Commonwealth Games. In boxing, Indian experienced boxer Shiv Thapa defeated his Pakistani opponent. India also defeated Pakistan in the mixed team event of badminton sports. In women’s hockey, the women in blue defeated Ghana by a huge margin of 5-0 in the first match. However, there were expectations of a little more margin win from Indian women against Ghana.
In Table Tennis, the women’s team won against South Africa & Fiji Island and made their position for the quarterfinals. Similarly, the men’s team has also got success to make their position in the quarterfinals. Whereas in squash too, the Indian team started with a win.
India won all opening matches in the badminton mixed team event
In the badminton mixed team event, India defeated Pakistan one-sided. India won straight games first in the mixed doubles clash followed by men’s singles and doubles and women’s singles and doubles.
1st Match (Mixed Doubles): Indian pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sumit Reddy defeated Muhammad Irfan Saeed Bhatti and Ghazala Siddiqui in a doubles clash. The pair Won by the score of 21-9 in the first game. Whereas in the second game, the pair of Ashwini and Sumit won by the score of 21-12 over Gazala and Irfan.
In the second match (Men’s Singles): Kindabi Srikanth beat Murad Ali by the score of 21-7, 21-12.
Third match (Women’s Singles): PV Sindhu beat Mahur Shahzad by scores of 21-7 and 21-6.
Fourth Match (Men’s Doubles): India’s Satwiksairaj Ranki Reddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Pakistan’s Murad Ali and Mohammad Irfan by the score of 21-12, 21-9.
Fifth Match (Women’s Doubles): Women’s pair of Trisha Jolly and Pullela Gayatri Gopichand defeated the Pakistani pair of Mahur Shehzad and Ghazala Siddiqui again one-sided 21-4, 21-5.
