Curtis Jones Biography. Curtis Julian Jones is an English professional footballer who was born on January 30, 2001. He plays in the middle of the field for the Premier League team Liverpool. Jones was born in the center of Liverpool to a British mother and a Nigerian father. He joined the Liverpool squad as a nine-year-old.
Player Career
Jones’s first game for the U23s was in January 2018. On February 1, 2018, he signed his first contract as a professional player. He was part of Liverpool’s team for their Premier League game against Everton on April 7, 2018. But he did not play any match in that league. However, Jones was a big part of Liverpool’s pre-season games before the 2018–19 season. Manager Jürgen Klopp liked how he could move around and dribble. Jones played his first game for the first team on January 7, 2019, against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the third round of the FA Cup.
Jones was on a Liverpool team that beat Everton 1-0 in the FA Cup at Anfield on January 5, 2020. The team was mostly made up of teenagers and backups. Jones’s curling shot from 20 yards out was the winner. It was his pioneer goal for that team. Jones was the youngest player to score in a Merseyside derby since Robbie Fowler scored for Liverpool in 1994. He was 18 years and 340 days old then.
Jones made his fifth Premier League appearance in the 2019–20 season on July 22 when he came off the bench against Chelsea. This meant that he was eligible for a winner’s medal from the Premier League. Jones was named the 2019–20 Premier League 2 Player of the Season on July 30. He beat out Liam Cullen, Billy Gilmour, Jahmal Hector-Ingram, Nathan Holland, and Rayhaan Tulloch, who were also up for the award. He scored his first UEFA Champions League goal in a 1-0 win over Ajax on December 1, 2020. This ensured that Liverpool would move on to the next round of the competition. Jones scored his first league goal of the season in a 2–0 win over Sheffield United on February 28, 2021.
As an international player
Jones was called up to the England U21 team for the first time on October 2, 2020. On October 7, 2020, he played in his first game, a 3–3 draw with Andorra. Then, on November 13, 2020, he scored his first goal for the U21s in a 3–1 win over Andorra U21 at Molineux Stadium.
