Shardul Thakur bowled for Mumbai against Assam in the current Ranji Trophy match at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Bandra-Kurla Complex on Friday, February 16.
The medium pacer returned with remarkable figures of 6/21, dismissing Parvej Musaraf, SC Ghadigaonkar, Denish Das, Kunal Sarma, Sunit Lachit, and Dibakar Johori in single figures to put Mumbai in first place.
The 32-year-old had gone wicketless in his last encounter against Chhattisgarh.
He had also taken a single wicket against South Africa in the Centurion Test before being dismissed from the Test selection for the home series with England.
Shardul will now want to maintain his success with the ball for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the next Indian Premier League (IPL season).
The Super Kings paid INR 4 crore to resign him during the IPL 2024 auction in December last year. He got 55 wickets in 48 games for CSK during his last tenure, which lasted from 2018 to 2021.

He has played for the Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the past two IPL seasons.
Mumbai, led by Shardul Thakur, dominated Assam in the Ranji Trophy encounter
Shardul Thakur’s excellent bowling effort helped Mumbai overpower Assam on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy match.
Batting first, Assam were dismissed for 84 in 32.1 overs. Abhishek Thakuri led the way with 31 off 46, with Saahil Jain 12 (19). And Abdul Ajij Kuraishi 15 (54) also reaching double figures.
Shams Mulani took two wickets in addition to Shardul Thakur. While Mohit Avasthi and Tushar Deshpande each took one for Mumbai.
In response, Mumbai were 164/5 after 38.3 overs, with Shivam Dube (63 off 61) and Shams Mulani (20 off 26) at the crease.
Prithvi Shaw contributed 30 off 26, while Hardik Tamore and Ajinkya Rahane replied with identical scores of 22 (26) and 22 (69).
