Yorkshire County Cricket Club and several individuals have been reprimanded as a result of an inquiry into racial charges filed by ex player Azeem Rafiq, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Wednesday, although they didn’t revealed the name the individuals in the issue. check out complete details about it below.
Cricket Yorkshire has been charged by ECB following inquiry into accusations of racism
Rafiq, a previous England under-19 captain of Pakistani origin, claimed systematic racism at the club the year before. The controversy shocked English cricket to its foundations, prompting significant shifts in training and managerial officials at Yorkshire.
“The allegations stem from alleged violations of ECB Directive 3.3 (behaviour that is inappropriate, may be harmful to the interests of cricket, or may cause disrepute) and the ECB Anti-Discrimination Code,” the governing body said in a release.
“Our standard procedure in instances of this type is not to identify persons charged at this time.” This is a case-by-case determination.”
The cases will be heard by an independent panel of the Cricket Discipline Commission, the organisation in the charge of disciplinary proceedings in the English domestic game.
Rafiq, who spoke before a British parliamentary committee in November, praised the ECB move and expressed optimism that the probe would be completed quickly.
“This has been yet another arduous but unavoidable procedure… “I hope that this means that no other young athlete will ever experience such agony and estrangement,” the 31-year-old remarked in a report.
“My choice would be for this hearing to be held openly, but I am hoping that we are reaching a point where my family and I can have some feeling of closure.”
Yorkshire chairman Kamlesh Patel stated in April that the club had learned its responsibilities and aimed to be a “lighthouse of hope” for diversification in English cricket.
