Manchester United defeated Queens Park Rangers 4-0 in a rematch to win the inaugural Community Shield game in 1908.
The format of the Community Shield, previously the Charity Shield, has undergone a number of alterations. First, the game was played between the Football League and Southern Football League champions from its debut in 1908 until 1912.
The Community Shield game has historically been held at Wembley Stadium, the home of English football. But it didn’t happen until 1974, when numerous venues, notably Manchester United’s Old Trafford and Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge, were utilized.

Eric Cantona has scored the most goals in the Community Shield games since the Premier League’s start in 1992–1993. Five goals have been scored in four games by the former Manchester United striker.
The Community Shield’s most successful players have won the trophy a record six times: Ray Clemence, Ashley Cole, Eric Cantona, and Petr Cech.
In the Community Shield’s history, the match between Manchester United and Swindon Town in 1911 saw the highest regulation score. United won 8-4 in the final score.
Manchester United also holds the record for the Community Shield’s most consecutive defeats, with four.
After Wembley, Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge has hosted ten Community Shield games.
