Wednesday was a momentous day for India, as the country ended the day having added four more medals to its total, bringing the overall number of medals won by the country to 18. Sourav Ghoshal, a squash player, won an unprecedented bronze medal, and Tulika Maan, a judoka, won silver in the women’s +78 kilogram category.
Tejaswin Shankar, another prominent Indian athlete, came away with a medal after competing in the men’s high jump final. He won the bronze medal.
On Wednesday, the Indian hockey teams and the women’s cricket squad both tasted success in their respective competitions. On the same day that the Indian women’s hockey team captained by Savita Punia defeated Canada by a score of 3-2 to advance to the semifinals, the Indian women’s cricket team captained by Harmanpreet Kaur also advanced to the semifinals with a convincing win over Barbados in a must-win group match.
