The Commonwealth Games sports tournament is held every 4 years. This event is the third largest sports event after the Asian Games. The first edition of the Commonwealth Games was held in the Canadian city of Hamilton in 1930. At the same time, India participated in the commonwealth games for the first time in 1934. At that time tournament was known as the British Empire Games.
The Commonwealth Games 2022 are going to be held in Birmingham, England from today 28 July to 8 August. All commonwealth countries are ready to take part in the current edition of CWG. Indians players are also ready to celebrate this year’s Independence Day on the soil of Britain.
List of the Indian star players who are not participating in CWG 2022
Tokyo Olympics gold medalist and the World Athletics Championships 2022’s silver medalist Neeraj Chopra, Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal, and HS Prannoy will not see in the tournament this year. Similarly, Indian star boxer MC Mary Kom, Shortputter Tajendar Pal Singh, and Indian women hockey captain Rani Rampal will also not participate in CWG 2022.
The player from the Discus throw event Kamalpreet Kaur, another Indian boxer Vikas Krishan Yadav, and the Long jumper Jeswin Aldrin will also not see participating in the tournament.
More than 4500 players from 72 countries are Participating
In this edition, more than 4,500 players from 72 countries are participating in the Games. There will be 283 medal events in 19 sports. Cricket entry is also happening after a long gap of 24 years. For the first time, a women’s cricket team will see in the mega event.
A total of 213 Indian players are participating in the CWG 2022
India’s 215 players are supposed to take part in this Maha Kumbh of the Games. The absence of the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra is a big setback for India before the tournament started.
Similarly, Aishwarya Babu of Karnataka failed the dope test before her arrival at the Commonwealth Games. Aishwarya is the national record holder in the triple jump. In such a situation, now 213 Indian players will take part in the glory of the tricolor.
