Good News for India!! Indian boxer Amit Panghal showed his class by reaching the final of the second consecutive Commonwealth Games 2022. At the same time, Nitu Ghangas (48kg) also won the gold medal in her first appearance at Birmingham. Panghal, in a race to win the yellow metal after his silver in the previous edition, defeated Zambian striker Patrick Chinyemba with a 5-0 unanimous decision victory.
On the other hand, Nitu won over Priyanka Dhillon from Canada by winning the RSC in the lowest weight class. Such was the confidence of the 21-year-old Nitu that she played wide guard, inviting her opponent to strike with straight jabs and combination punches. In the end, the referee had to end the competition.
Both boxers will have to overcome local challenges in their respective finals on Sunday in Kiaran Macdonald and Demi-Jade Resztan in their quest for their inaugural gold medals.
What does Panghal say about Commonwealth Games 2022 preparation?
As we said, the two Indian boxers, Amit Panghal and Nitu Ghanghas have qualified for the finals of the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Both the Indians had earlier performed their best and are now ready for a stunning comeback in the finals to enter the medal rounds.
“I know it will be difficult, there will be loud applause for him, but I have to focus. I can’t let it go this time,” said a determined Panghal, who lost to another British and Tokyo Olympic champion in Galal Yafai in 2018.
Panghal, 26, was left behind when his younger and more aggressive opponent struck the World Championship silver medalist. Therefore, trailing 2-3 after the first round, Panghal, who had missed out on the Tokyo Olympics, leaving behind the specter of the Tokyo Olympics, had to dig deeper into his great experience. The Asian Games champion ups the ante, lands hooks, and jabs to take the round. Furthermore, both boxers tried to make a mark in the final three minutes, but all four judges ruled in favor of Panghal.
