Coco gauff into round three after an impressive win
Coco gauff into round three after an impressive win, Defeating Mihaela Buzarnescu of Romania in straight sets on Thursday, Coco Gauff advanced to the third round of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. On a crowded Centre Court, the American won in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) in just 80 minutes.
The 18-year-old took the first set with a serve of 122 miles per hour, breaking Buzarnescu in the fourth game of the match. She then served even faster in the second set, reaching 124 miles per hour. These were the two fastest serves in this year’s women’s competition. Not only did Gauff not suffer a single break point, but she also won 85% of the points on her first serve.
World No. 12 discussed the pressures of playing on Centre Court and the importance of the match in an on-court interview after the match.
Expectations
Both [over these two weeks I have felt everyone’s expectations] and neither. Coco Gauff: “I know that compared to three years ago there are obviously or apparently a lot more people expecting/hoping me to win, but I think 15-year-old me would be thrilled that I’m still playing on Centre Court.”
Gauff claimed that she will always remember her first Grand Slam victory, over Venus Williams, as having taken place at the grass Major in 2019.
The opportunity to play on this court, in Gauff’s opinion, is probably one of the greatest or most splendid honors that I have ever had the chance to experience. “I’m thrilled that I can keep doing it and thank you guys again for all the backing or support,” Gauff said.
The woman who reached the finals at Roland Garros said she didn’t feel apprehensive before taking the court for the first time ever.
I didn’t feel any nerves before on the court. Maybe this was the first time I’d ever stepped foot on Centre Court and not felt a twinge of anxiety. Gauff continued, “Honestly, when a schedule came out I was astonished that we were on Centre Court, so I don’t know if that’s from experience.” If I made it this far, I didn’t expect to play on this court until the quarterfinals or semifinals at the earliest. It’s a privilege to follow [Rafael] Nadal on Centre Court today. That, too, is rather remarkable, in my opinion.
In the third round, Gauff will face fellow countrywoman Amanda Anisimova. Earlier in the day, Anisimova defeated Lauren Davis 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 to get to her first-ever Wimbledon third-round match.
Rafael Nadal lauded Coco Gauff and said she would go on to win numerous Grand Slam titles following his second-round triumph over Ricardas Berankis.
I enjoy her postgame interviews with the press and the cheering audience. Her appearance is really new. Clearly, she was born to do this. Looks like she’s really well along in her thinking at this point. In my opinion, she is a fighter. She has a nice style of play. She competes fiercely for each and every ball. Nadal continued, “She never gives/shows up and she always or ever goes or reaches for every ball, even when she’s not playing great.
Along with that, he added, “I think if she’s able just to develop a little bit with this physical performance, undertaking, or enactment that she has, maybe we’ll speak about the player or participant that she will be [a] multi-Grand Slam winner.”
