Christophe Galtier- Signed in by Paris Saint-Germain as coach. French champions Paris Saint-Germain confirmed the news of parting company with the coach Mauricio Pochettino, on 5th July 2022. The replacement position was filled by Christophe Galtier, who cracked Argentine and PSG for the 2021 Ligue 1 title. At that time, he was in charge of Lille. Galtier signed as PSG’s seventh coach in the last 11 years when the Qataris bought the club. Chances are now high to lift the trophy of the Champions League finally
“Yes, I am emotional, yes I am proud,” said Galtier while talking in a press conference.
“I am fully aware of the responsibility placed on me, that PSG had a huge season.
“I have prepared myself for this.
“If I have accepted these responsibilities, it is because I feel I am capable.”
Earlier, the club clarified to confirm the news that was widely going on for weeks – It was the exit of Pochettino, although a year was left in his contract.
“Paris Saint-Germain confirms that Mauricio Pochettino has ended his role at the club,” said a club statement as this former coach of Tottenham Hotspur left after remaining for 18 months in charge.
Pochettino along with his backroom staff exited after winning the Ligue 1 title last season. Unfortunately, the campaign will be remembered for making a disappointing exit during the Champions League, being in the last 16 at the hands after getting defeated by Real Madrid.
The PSG statement mentioned, “The club would like to thank Mauricio Pochettino and his staff for their work and wish them the best for the future.”
After leaving Nice last month, Galtier has established a reputation as the leading coach, over the last decade in the French club game.
He served 8 eventful years at Saint-Etienne and won the 2013 League Cup before his four-year stay at Lille, which got crowned with the Ligue 1 title in 2021.
The former assistant manager of Portsmouth earlier worked with Luis Campos. He was the Portuguese super scout and was recently declared as PSG’s football advisor. He built the Lille team, which bagged the league under Galtier.
