Christian Eriksen has officially signed with Manchester United on a three-year deal after undergoing a demanding physical.
Christan Eriksen set to join Manchester United
The 30-year-old, who decided against staying at Brentford after a successful loan season there last year, has improved Erik ten Hag’s midfield options at Old Trafford.
Due to the lengthy travel required from the UK, United’s preseason visit in Australia will not include Denmark international Eriksen.
Eriksen rejoins Ten Hag, who invited him to train with Ajax during his recovery from the heart arrest he suffered at Euro 2020, and who helped make the midfielder’s return from that incident possible.
Eriksen’s decision would be influenced by factors other than football, therefore United pursued him patiently and did not put any pressure on him to make one.
Eriksen had made a home for his family at Brentford in London, but the opportunity to work with Ten Hag and be a part of United’s new era under the Dutchman has captivated him.
After a productive half-season at Brentford, it was not surprising that Eriksen attracted elite suitors. Within weeks of Eriksen’s first engagement, Thomas Frank’s team went from being relegation candidates to being secure in the middle of the standings, a complete turnaround thanks to the midfielder.
Ivan Toney’s performance in west London last season was greatly improved by Eriksen, which would have thrilled United.
When Eriksen started every game for the Bees, the attacker for Brentford saw a two-fold increase in goals per game and Average Goals ratios, and Toney saw an increase in his amount of shots and touches in the box during that time.
At Old Trafford this season, Eriksen may use the same methods to Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, and perhaps even Cristiano Ronaldo, who have all been scoring goals for Erik Ten Hag’s team in preseason.
Eriksen’s arrival will help alleviate some of the burden Bruno Fernandes is under in the offensive midfield position, particularly given the necessity for rotation to launch a meaningful Europa League push.
