Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and some members of the selection committee are expected to talk to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma about the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Kohli and Rohit have not played a T20I for India since the Men in Blue were eliminated in the semi-finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
The insider also mentioned the likelihood of 25-30 players being actively tracked throughout the IPL:

According to sources, IPL 2024 would likely begin on March 22 and end towards the end of May. The T20 World Cup will take place between June 4 and June 30.

Agarkar and his team would consult with Rohit, Kohli, and head coach Rahul Dravid before naming the Indian selection for the T20I series against Afghanistan.
According to the report, two national selectors, Shiv Sunder Das and Salil Ankola, have already arrived in Cape Town and will be joined by head selector Agarkar for the second Test.
According to the news agency, roughly 30 T20 experts, including India and IPL players, will be monitored to choose the strongest squad for the T20 World Cup in 2024.
However, there is no guarantee that Rohit and Kohli will be selected for the home series against Afghanistan because it is unlikely to reveal anything to the selectors.
Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are both ineligible. The Afghanistan series will not reveal anything.
Everything would be decided based on the first month of the IPL, a BCCI source said on condition of anonymity to PTI.

Kohli and Rohit are the leading T20I run-scorers
In the T20I format, Kohli and Rohit are the two top run scorers. The former is the first player in T20I history to score over 4,000 runs.
He has 4,008 runs in 115 matches, an average of 52.73, a strike rate of 137.96, and 137 fifties.
Rohit, on the other hand, has 3,853 runs from 148 matches at an average of 31.32 and a strike rate of 139.24, with four hundred and 29 half-centuries.
