On Tuesday, January 23, Chelsea transfer will face Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of their EFL Cup semifinal.
Mauricio Pochettino’s squad trailed 1-0 on aggregate after losing the first match away.
Meanwhile, the Blues are interested in Roberto Firmino, a former Liverpool player.
In other news, the London club has started discussions with Sporting CP’s center-back Ousmane Diomande to join them at Chelsea.
On that topic, here’s a look at the top Chelsea transfer stories as of January 19, 2024:
Chelsea Transfer – Chelsea wants Roberto Firmino
According to writer Dean Jones, Chelsea wants to bring Roberto Firmino back to the Premier League.
The Brazilian attacker joined Al-Ahli from Liverpool in the summer but might soon return to England.
The Blues are seeking for a new No. 9 this month, and the 32-year-old is on their wishlist.
Jones told GIVEMESPORT that Firmino is uneasy in Saudi Arabia.
It would be a completely unexpected comeback to the Premier League for Firmino since I believe we had seen the last of him.
We know Chelsea would be eager to go there, and it would be a difficult decision for Firmino to make to join Chelsea, a club he would have considered a competition for most of his time at Liverpool,” Jones added.
At this point, I don’t think much has transpired. I believe it is simply a matter of assessing the circumstances and acknowledging that Firmino is not satisfied in Saudi Arabia.
But he’s definitely on the radar.
To be honest, seeing Firmino return to the Premier League in Chelsea colors would be very fantastic.
Firmino is a Liverpool icon, having scored 111 goals and provided 79 assists in 362 appearances across all competitions.

Blues start discussions for Ousmane Diomande
According to the London World, Chelsea is in discussions to bring Ousmane Diomande to Stamford Bridge.
This season, the Ivorian defender has made 21 appearances across competitions and started all but one of them for Sporting.
His efforts have impressed the Blues’ administration, who have dispatched scouts to observe him at the current 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Pochettino is anticipated to look for a new defender this year, while Thiago Silva’s future remains uncertain.
The Brazilian defender’s contract will expire after the season, and he is nearing the end of his career.
The London giants want to remedy the problem by bringing in Diomande, but they face competition from Liverpool.
Chelsea intends to sell Armando Broja this month
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea is open to receiving proposals for Armando Broja this month.
Under Pochettino, the Albanian striker has been in and out of the starting lineup, scoring two goals and assisting once in 17 appearances this season.
Broja is no longer required, therefore the Blues are seeking for a replacement striker this season.
In his blog for Caught Offside, Romano stated that the London club will only allow the 22-year-old to depart for a reasonable amount.
We know Chelsea wants a new striker in the summer, and as widely reported, Armando Broja might go in January.
It depends on the ideas since Chelsea will only accept it if they acquire significant funding, stated Romano.
While I realize the danger of losing a wonderful young talent like Broja.
Chelsea already knows they intend to make a huge acquisition upfront in June, thus it may make sense for all sides to close this deal now, as long as the price is correct.
