Mathews and Chandimal continue with confidence despite the setback.
Even though Sri Lanka lost Kusal Mendis early on Day 3 of the tournament, they were still able to make headway toward catching up to Australia’s score and winning the match. Both Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal are seasoned veterans, and by combining their extensive expertise, they were able to confidently score a fifty-run partnership and foil the bowlers that were used by the other team.
Despite having the opportunity to bat with the new ball for the first five overs before the lunch break, Australia was unable to make any significant progress in the match. Before lunch, the score for the home team was 262/3, and Mathews and Chandimal were tied for the lead with 49* and 29* respectively.

After lunch, the game resumed, and a few overs into the second half of the game, Mitchell Starc bowled Chandimal, who should have been out to a catch behind off of his delivery. Unfortunately, despite the fact that there was significant demand from Australia at the time, they did not have any evaluations remaining to offer. The viewer could not help but notice that Ultra Edge had a distinct inner edge. After Chandimal made the most of the significant reprieve that he was given by slamming the next delivery for a four through mid-off, there was no turning back from that moment onward.
He reached his 22nd Test fifty by sweeping the ball through the fine leg, and despite a brief interruption caused by the rain that caused tea to be served earlier than usual, Sri Lanka continued playing in a manner that was quite similar to how they had been playing previously. At the Test level, Chandimal turned his fifty into his thirteenth hundred, which contributed to Sri Lanka taking the lead. The performance of Chandimal was another factor that helped Sri Lanka’s triumph.

Australia spinners strike late
If Australia hadn’t picked up a few wickets for Sri Lanka toward the end of the game, the island nation would have been able to exert complete control over the situation. Despite this, they were able to lose two wickets in the penultimate session as a result of a few reckless strokes that they played during the match.
Because Kamindu Mendis had received a score of fifty on the first test he took, there was a good chance that he would end up with a very high score altogether. His downfall, however, was precipitated by the occasional wayward stroke that he played, which resulted in the dismissal of one of his wickets. Mitchell Swepson was able to effectively castle his opponent because of his ability to cause the ball to spin after it had been played off the rough.
After three overs of bowling, Nathan Lyon was successful in coaxing Niroshan Dickwella to play a massive shot. Pat Cummins was able to take the southpaw out of the game while it was still in progress by fooling him into taking the bait and then successfully removing him from contention.
Both Ramesh Mendis and Chadimal contributed contributions to Sri Lanka’s big advantage going into the stumps, which was 67 runs when play was stopped for the day.
