CBS Sports’ top 25 ‘best in college sports’ rankings for 2021-22: The Texas Longhorns won the LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup for the second time in a row at the end of last month. The Longhorns won three spring national championships and four total crowns during the 2021-22 sporting season.
Texas ended with 1,449.50 points, more than 1,000 more than second-place Stanford (1,352.25). Three Big Ten schools finished in the top 25 of the LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup, with Michigan ranking third (1,245.25), Ohio State ranking fourth (1,184.50), and Wisconsin ranking 24th (795.00).
Iowa finished No. 55 in the 2021-22 LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup, second-to-last among Big Ten teams.
CBS Sports has released a separate set of rankings for the 2021-22 sports season, which will make Hawkeyes supporters very happy. CBS Sports’ “best in college sports” rankings employ a weighted system that rewards sports with widespread appeal.
To evaluate college athletics, a weighted method makes sense. At the very least, it provides supporters with a new set of rankings to utilize — or disregard — in any debate over which programmes had the finest athletic seasons in 2021-22.
