ICC T20 World Cup in 2007
India met archrival Pakistan in the final match in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup at Johannesburg’s New Wanderers Stadium. MS Dhoni won the coin toss and chose to bat first. Gautam Gambhir led India to a respectable 157/5 with 54-ball 75-run innings, while Rohit Sharma provided an unbeaten 30 runs off 16 balls.
ICC ODI World Cup in 2011
In 2011, India and Sri Lanka co-hosted the ICC One-Day International World Cup, and they met in the final at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Dhoni played a captain’s innings while chasing 275 runs, but before him, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli’s partnership saved Team India from an untenable start by openers Virender Sehwag (0) and Sachin Tendulkar (18). Dhoni had hit 91 runs off 79 balls, including that magnificent six, as India won by six wickets.
ICC Champions Trophy in 2013
The Champions Trophy Final was played between India and England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After winning the toss, English captain Alastair Cook elected to bat first. India scored 129/7 thanks to Virat Kohli’s 43 off 34 balls, Ravindra Jadeja’s 33* off 25, and Shikhar Dhawan’s 31. India won the match by five wickets after restricting England to 124/8.
5 IPL Trophies
MS Dhoni guided Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023. In 2010, they won their first title, defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by 22 runs. Dhoni and co. successfully defended their championship the following year, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 58 runs to reach the final. After serving a two-year ban, CSK returned in 2018, only to win the prized trophy for the third time by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets. Then, in 2021, they overcame Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs and tied their trophy total with MI when they defeated Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the IPL 2023 final.
