On Day 3 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday, July 21, Australian captain Pat Cummins gave his team a key breakthrough by removing England captain Ben Stokes, who put the ball onto the stumps.
The incident occurred after Cummins bowled an angled delivery towards the left-hander from around the wicket in the 84th over of England’s first session. Stokes attempted to flick it over the line but was caught by a through-the-gates delivery. The inside edge touched the stumps.
Australia dismissed England, bringing the total after 83.1 overs to 437/5.
Ben Stokes, however, scored 51 runs off 74 deliveries, including five boundaries, to play a useful knock. He and Harry Brook added 86 runs together for the fifth wicket, extending the hosts’ lead to at least 100 runs.
