Canelo Alvarez stops Gennady Golovkin in a unanimous decision victory
Canelo Alvarez stops Gennady Golovkin in a unanimous decision victory: Canelo Alvarez continued his reign as undisputed super middleweight champion with a 116-112 unanimous decision victory against long-time rival Gennady Golovkin in their third and final fight of a trilogy.
The Mexican fighter Alvarez dominated the first eight rounds, and his 40-year-old opponent Golovkin could only muster a feeble comeback in the final two rounds.
One of the main draws of this battle was the rivalry between these two warriors. Both fights were high-caliber, rare-air boxing matches that showcased both fighters at their absolute best, yet the first was ruled a draw and the second went to Alvarez.
GGG
Despite GGG’s advanced age, this fight was seen as a defining moment for both fighters because of the remarks spoken between the two future halls of Famers leading up to the bout.
These first two fights should have taught Alvarez one thing: he should always go for the fast start while facing Triple GGG. That’s precisely what he did. The 32-year-old fought like a champion from the start, controlling the action by moving to the center of the ring.
He stood firm, knowing that his resolve will pay off in the end. By moving to the middle of the ring, Canelo was practically throwing down a challenge to GGG. The Kazakh boxer would have to meet in the middle and endure some punishment if he was to do any real harm.
Because of his age and the possibility of leftover strength from Canelo’s last fight, in which he lost the super light heavyweight belt, GGG was hesitant to fight in the center of the ring with the lighter weight class Canelo was moving down to.
Victory
Golovkin, who has won fights with his delectable jab, refused to move his feet. Given his advanced years, GGG probably spent the first several rounds focusing on dodging blows and guarding his body.
Canelo’s mastery of footwork led to a unanimous decision victory on Sunday. Canelo’s two-step forward effectively closed space quickly, prevented GGG from predicting where the next strike was coming from, and allowed Alvarez to deliver any punch he desired.
It’s easy to get the proper cross to the body. There’s a left hook waiting to be landed on your skull.
In the latter rounds, Alvarez’s nimble footwork let him land a right, almost overhand slug, providing photographers with a picture-perfect moment as Triple G’s face swung to the left and sweat flecks rained down. When facing an opponent who gave him room to work, Alvarez displayed his full potential.
Golovkin, on the other hand, was a mere shell of his former self.
The Kazakh boxer was previously thought to be the man who could defeat Alvarez, thanks to his superior hand speed and rock-solid chin. What would happen to the box after Floyd Mayweather Jr.? These two.
Golovkin, on the other hand, was focused on staying healthy and safe on Sunday. His footwork was really sluggish, especially in the first eight rounds.
Settle down
The implication is that his offensive contributions were minimal, consisting mostly of a few scattered jabs. Boxing fans were witnessing a fighter well past his prime when the combinations dried up and the legendary triple jab became a distant memory.
And just as it seemed like Golovkin might be shut out, he began to make his move. After the eighth round, he seemed to settle down and make more use of the ring.
Even when he began to repeatedly back Alvarez into the ropes, it was never like Golovkin’s moments in their past fights. Even on the ropes, Alvarez remained dangerous, landing lethal blows that forced Golovkin to abandon his own head-hunting escapade.
Time, however, was the ultimate arbiter, and it was time that won. Simply put, Golovkin never had much of a tank for this war, and his tactic of saving it for the latter rounds was doomed to fail in light of the formidable opponent he faced in the ring.
Remarks
“A mutual embrace signaled the finish of the 12th round and the cessation of hostilities. If you take one wrong step, the fight is over,” Golovkin remarked when questioned about the contest.
The level of competition here is absolutely incredible. We put in the time in the gym, and the result was a highly competent bout. superior in strategy and intelligence. As of right now, Canelo is the superior fighter.
Canelo claimed that he had a weakened left hand leading up to the fight and that he was unable to hold a glass steady. After the match, he was much more circumspect, saying just, “We gave the fans three fantastic fights.” Certainly, they did.
