Canada’s greatest Baseball Players : On August 14, Joey Votto entered the 1,989th major league Baseball game. He surpassed Larry Walker, who played the most ever by a player from Canada. Canada has seen some of the best baseball players who achieve many milestones for the country. In honor of the milestone, we are remembering three greatest Canadian Baseball players
Joey Votto
The 38-year-old Torontonian is arguably one of the best pure hitters from Canada. He is currently all with the Reds in his 16th big-league season. He’s never won any batting title, but he has led the National League in on-base percentage 7 times. Also, when he topped the entire majors. In 2010, he performed best of his career When he won his only NL MVP. He was leading the league in both slugging percentage and on-base that year.
Larry Walker
The only Canadian hitter to gain the Baseball Hall of Fame. He is Canada’s all-time leader in home runs with 383 runs. He has a batting average of .313. He played 17 seasons and won seven Gold Gloves, a Canadian record. He is a rare “five-tool” talent and one of the best all-around ballplayers from Canada. Like Joey Votto, He also has one MVP for a monster in 1997. He won MVP with the Rockies in which he scored 49 homers, 130 RBIs, and 33 steals. 33 steals are his all-career highs.
Fergie Jenkins
He is the greatest pitcher in Canadian baseball history. He achieved 284 wins, and 267 complete cases in his 19 league seasons. Doubling the total of any other Canadian, he has many wins. He had 3,192 strikeouts, a Canadian record with a gap of 1100. Had his best run with the Chicago cubs throughout his career he has achieved some greatest games with many records. In 1971 he was the first Canadian to win the CY Young award. Also, the first Canadian to be included in the Baseball Hall of Fame. His career WAR of 84.1 put him at 55th rank in all-time greats of baseball.
