In a press conference Vikram Rathour, the Indian batting coach addressed that Rishab pant can play as an opener in place of KL Rahul. On Saturday he arranged the press conference ahead of the match with South Africa.
Right Handed batsman and current team Vice Captain KL Rahul is out of form in the outgoing T20 world cup as he recorded scores of 4 against Pakistan and 9 against the Netherlands. Rahul being the top order performer is facing tough to perform and is not able to rotate the strike roughly. Because of all this stuff, the issues are raised in the conference to try Rishab pant in the top order batting, considering warming the bench as Dinesh Kartik is being preferred ahead of him as the wicketkeeper.
After the question was raised by the batting coach. The reply from Rathour said “no, we are not thinking that. In two games, I don’t think that’s a good enough sample size anyways. In the practice games, he batted well as well all time he bats well. Don’t know what is happening now.”
Talking about the new approach to attack by amending the batting line-up. He said “ we are looking to adapt. Of course, playing with intent is always a goal. We are looking forward to scoring runs wherever we can. But to achieve we have to keep in account the conditions we are playing on, the surface we are playing on. To achieve something there are conditions to follow.”
Virat Kohli is in good touch in the ongoing tournament. He scored 82 runs against Pakistan and 62 runs against the Netherlands.
Taking about Virat, the batting coach responded” I think the conditions demanded him or the situation demanded him to play in a particular way and he’s done that way. He is a good enough player to change his game to whatever the team requires” Currently after the win against the Netherlands the team India is at top of the group table.
