Burnley hope to bounce back from their recent setbacks as they host Crawley Town at Turf Moor in the third round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday (November 8).
A 5-2 defeat at Sheffield United on Saturday saw the Clarets continue their four-match winning streak. It was the first defeat in 19 matches in all competitions.
However, Vincent Kompany’s side are still top of the EFL Championship with 38 points from 20 games, two points ahead of second-placed Blackburn Rovers. Burnley beat Shrewsbury Town in the second round of the August Cup thanks to a 50th minute strike from Samuel Bastien.
They are aiming to advance to the quarter-finals for the third year in a row. Meanwhile, Crowley are struggling with 14 points and 3 wins from 16 games in Ligue 2, dropping to 19th in the table.
Prediction
Burnley suffered a major loss but overall they are impressive and have a good chance of winning.
Crawley have also been in good form in recent weeks but lack the quality to match the Clarets, who should have won comfortably.
Head-to-head
It will be the first meeting between Burnley and Crawley. Burnley have reached the fourth round of the Carabao Cup in the last two years.
Crawley have beaten Bristol Rovers (1-0) and Fulham (2-0) in the last two rounds. Crowley reached the third round for the first time since 2019 when they reached the fourth round of the EFL Cup. Crowley are unbeaten in all 10 away games this season.
Burnley, meanwhile, are unbeaten in all 10 home games this season and have won 10-3 in their last four home games.
