Bruno Fernandes, a star player for Manchester United, has disputed Cristiano Ronaldo’s claim that Portugal’s new coach Roberto Martinez has brought a refreshing change to the team. After Selecao’s exit from the FIFA World Cup in December of last year, Fernando Santos ended his eight-year tenure as head coach.
The Portuguese Football Association appointed Martinez as their new boss after considering several candidates. Portugal’s first match under Martinez ended in a 4-0 victory over Liechtenstein. They followed it up with one more pounding 6-0 win against Luxembourg on Sunday (Walk 26).
Thus, under the Spanish coach, Cristiano Ronaldo and co. have had a successful start to their careers. The Al-Nassr superstar recently stated that the team benefits from the former Belgium head coach’s fresh perspective. However, contrary to what his captain had suggested, Fernandes has stated that Selecao has never been in need of fresh air.
The attacker for Manchester United went on to say that he is aware that the national team is going through a change. According to Fernandes’ statement to the Portuguese television channel RTP3 [via Yahoo! Sport]. ” There is absolutely no fresh air. It’s just a period of transition.
“The national team has always had a positive atmosphere. There has never been anything new, so I think it’s just new dynamics and a new coach, and you have to take his ideas into account.” Fernandes provided additional insight into Martinez’s system by saying, via Record:
“Obviously, the new system is different, and its dynamics are different. It is each person’s unique capacity to make a difference. Indeed, even today (Sunday; ed.) we saw: Every substitution has an impact. They did so again today and in the previous match.
“The coach knows that we have a very complete selection, and he also knows that he can change one, two, three, four, or five players and still have the same or better capacity or quality,” Portugal won’t play again until June when the next international break is.
