Brennan Armstrong Snubbed on ESPN’s Top 100 College Football Players
Brennan Armstrong Snubbed On ESPN’s: This week, ESPN published a list of the top 100 college football players they believe will be playing for their respective schools for the 2022 season.
“Not by unit, conference or where they might or might not be selected in future NFL draughts, but rather a good old-fashioned stacking of who is the best at playing football, regardless of position,” read the article.
“Not by unit, conference or where they might or might not be selected in future NFL draughts.”
In a surprising turn of events, the quarterback for Virginia, Brennan Armstrong, did not make the list.
The player who finished second in college football in passing yards per game and total offence and sixth in the country in points responsible for did not make the list of the top 100 players in the sport for the following season. These are all categories in which the player ranked nationally.
There was one Cavalier that made it onto the list. Dontayvion Wicks, a wide receiver, was ranked number 95 overall. The following is what ESPN had to say about him:
Yards
“During the previous season, Wicks was a big-play machine, as he caught 57 balls for 1,203 yards — an average of 21.1 yards per reception, which was excellent for sixth place in the nation. Wicks concluded the season with 27 receptions of at least 20 yards, ranking third among Power 5 receivers behind only Jordan Addison and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He was the first player since 2019 to catch 50 passes and average at least 20 yards per reception.”
Somehow, ESPN was able to recognize Wicks as a top 100 player (which we agree with, but would have had Wicks placed much higher on the list) without noting the man who was giving him those passes. We would have had Wicks listed considerably higher on the list.
According to Danny Neckel, ESPN ranked 21 quarterbacks in the top 100, however they did not include the quarterback who led the Power Five in passing yards and total offense on average in 2021. Danny Neckel brought this out.
