Bobby Portis signs a four-year contract
Bobby Portis signs a four-year contract. According to Bobby Portis’ agent Mark Bartelstein, the Milwaukee Bucks will re-sign Bobby Portis to a four-year, $49 million contract on Thursday.
Portis turned down the $4.6 million player option in his deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, allowing him to leave the team this offseason as an unrestricted free agency.
He made 72 appearances for the Bucks in 2021–2022, scoring a career-high 14.6 points per game on top of 9.1 rebounds, 1.8 three-pointers, and 1.2 assists. It followed his performance as an important reserve during the team’s drive to the 2021 NBA championship.
In May, Portis stated he intended to stay in Milwaukee but would ultimately leave the specifics up to Bartelstein.
He told reporters that was up to the organization and his agent to determine. ‘I hardly ever talk about money, agreements, or anything else like that. I adore this place. It certainly depends on them to make it work, even though I adore being a Buck.’
The Chicago Bulls selected the 27-year-old University of Arkansas player in the first round of the 2015 NBA Draft, launching his NBA career.
He spent his first three or more seasons playing with the Bulls before making brief appearances for the Washington Wizards and New York Knicks before settling in Milwaukee.
In 453 games over the course of his career, Portis has averaged 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting 47 percent from the field, including 38.3 percent on three-pointers.
After failing to successfully defend their title and losing to the Boston Celtics in the second round, the Bucks were forced to think about how much roster turnover they required. One possible vacuum is filled by bringing back the 6’10” forward.
Barring further roster adjustments, Portis should once again take on a starting position and act as a crucial supporting player to the Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday combination.
