By November 30, the Birsamunda International Hockey Stadium, which will host the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup Hockey 2023 alongside Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, would be completed, according to Thursday’s remarks from Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra.
Birsamunda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela will be ready by November 30
Mahapatra traveled to Rourkela city with a three-person elite team to check on the status of two major projects: the hockey stadium and the location of the future airport.
The airport and Birsamunda International Hockey Stadium are now in their last stages of development, he said after examining the work. We anticipate finishing both the stadium and airport’s construction by the end of this month, he added.
Both the primary stadium and the practice stadium have turf. He said that the 225 rooms for players and officials to stay in as well as the visitors’ gallery will soon be finished.
After the renovation is finished, Mahapatra stated that professional hockey games involving hockey teams from India and other nations would be scheduled to test the new grass and practice area.
As a huge number of fans are anticipated to attend the stadium to witness the hockey world cup, which is being organized for the first time in Rourkela, a contemporary parking space is being created surrounding the stadium to accommodate a maximum number of vehicles, he said.
Additionally, provisions have been made for restrooms and drinking water within the stadium. According to the Chief Secretary, the Odisha government would set up direct charter aircraft to ensure that players can travel easily from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela.
For those who were unable to make it to the stadium to witness the events, steps are being done to install LED displays in key locations across the steel city.
The Rourkela airport’s development is moving forward quickly. According to the Chief Secretary, construction is now underway on roads leading to the stadium, the airport, the ring road, and other beautifying projects.
The stadium, together with Kalinga Stadium, will host the Men’s FIH World Cup Hockey 2023 from January 13–29 of the next year. At Rourkela, about 20 games will be played.
