Big 12 football stadiums ranked: Longhorns’ home grabs top
Big 12 football stadiums ranked: In less than a month’s time, the college football season will kick up, and fans across the country are counting down the minutes until one of their favorite sports, American football, returns.
Here is a rating of the 10 Big 12 football stadiums, with a description of why each stadium was ranked the way it was.
No. 10 David Booth Memorial Stadium – Kansas Jayhawks
David Booth Memorial Stadium has the distinction of being one of the Big 12’s most historic venues, but that’s about it. KU’s home stadium, which first opened in October 1921, is in dire need of extensive upgrades.
The stadium itself gives practically little advantage to fans because the games are located in Lawrence, Kansas. In addition, the crowds aren’t large enough for college football fans to enjoy themselves.
No. 9 Bill Snyder Family Stadium – Kansas State Wildcats
The Wildcats’ stadium has no negatives to speak of, but that’s also why it’s ranked second to bottom in our rankings.
Bill Snyder Family Stadium, which opened in 1968, hasn’t seen much change since the addition of club seats before the 2021 season. The stadium’s cobblestone construction serves as a unique concept, but there isn’t much to entice a die-hard sports fan to attend a match.
No. 8 Jones AT&T Stadium – Texas Tech Red Raiders
When one thinks about Lubbock, Texas, not much comes to mind. The good news is that Texas Tech’s inhabitants and students have a world-class stadium in which they can take solace. For the Red Raider nickname, the stadium’s horseshoe architecture is a perfect fit. As an added bonus, there is a very distinctive turf in the north end zone beneath the scoreboard.
No. 7 Jack Trice Stadium – Iowa State Cyclones
The fact that Jack Trice Stadium has such a dedicated following and a lively atmosphere just adds to its allure. The flashing lights of fans’ phones to “Sweet Caroline” has become one of the Big 12’s most recognizable traditions when it comes to football.
In addition, the stadium itself is constantly being renovated and improved, making it a stunning sight for football fans in Ames, Iowa.
No. 6 Amon G. Carter Stadium – TCU Horned Frogs
TCU is well-known for its beautiful settings.
The same may be said for Amon G. Carter Stadium. The new scoreboard enhances the stadium’s ambiance by making everything appear larger on the inside. Additionally, watching a football game with the city of Fort Worth, Texas, as the backdrop is a breathtaking sight for any football enthusiast.
No. 5 Milan Puskar Stadium – West Virginia Mountaineers
Milan Puskar Stadium offers the best view of a rural college football game anywhere. Mountaineer Stadium, near Morgantown, West Virginia, is one of the most picturesque places to watch a college football game. During and after games, West Virginia fans burn couches and sing “Country Roads,” making for some of the most memorable matchups in college football history.
No. 4 McLane Stadium – Baylor Bears
This stadium is an improvement over Floyd Casey Stadium in every way possible.
A famous vista from both inside and outside the stadium is made possible by its location along the Brazos River. In addition, the stadium’s plate-like roof is a sight to behold, as is the stadium’s lighting. Fans will enjoy their time in the Big 12’s newest stadium on game day.
No. 3 placed Boone Pickens Stadium – Oklahoma State Cowboys
As long as the stadium is top-notch, you can’t go wrong.
If you attend an OSU game, you won’t want to miss the jumbotron, which takes up more than half of Gallagher-Iba Arena and is home to both the wrestling and basketball teams. It’s also a well-known ritual in the Big 12 Conference to stroll, paddle, and sing “Friends in Low Places” prior to the game. One of the Big 12’s most picturesque stadiums, Boone Pickens Stadium has come a long way over the years.
No. 2 Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium
The colossal size of Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium is comparable to that of a major league football stadium. Actually, it’s bigger than a huge portion of professional stadiums.
“The Palace on the Prairie” is the nickname given to the Sooners’ stadium, which has constantly sold out and hosted some of the most intense game-day experiences in college sports. This historic college football stadium has several advantages, including the fact that there is a mini-parking lot inside the stadium for benefactors and regular celebrity attendance (Toby Keith comes to mind).
No. 1 Darrell K Royal Memorial Stadium – Texas Longhorns
When it comes to fan support and attendance, the University of Texas operates almost like a professional sports team in one of the nation’s fastest-growing towns, which does not currently have a professional sports franchise.
If you’re a college football lover, you have to see the new end zone improvements at the Big House. Only one stadium in the Big 12 holds more than 100,000 people, and the view of Austin, Texas, from behind the scoreboard is only one advantage of the Texas Longhorns’ home. In addition, a section of the stadium serves as a mini-museum, showcasing the long history of Texans in football.
