Cheteshwar Pujara received special greetings as he turns 36
On Thursday (January 25), the cricket community and fans wished experienced Indian Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara a happy 36th birthday.
Pujara was last seen on the pitch during Saurashtra’s Ranji Trophy match against Vidarbha earlier this week.
The Indian team selectors had disregarded him in the last several red-ball series. His last outing for India was in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against Australia in June of last year.
Cheteshwar Pujara was then ignored for the West Indies, South Africa, and the current Test series against England.
In Pujara’s absence, team management and selectors have chosen to play young Shubman Gill at number three.
Pujara has competed in the County Championship and Ranji Trophy during his absence from international cricket.
He just became the fourth Indian cricketer to have scored more than 20000 runs in his FC career. He joined an exclusive group that included Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid.
On Pujara’s 36th birthday, cricketers and fans alike took to social media to wish him well.
His former Indian colleague Gautam Gambhir set the tone with a post on X. Soon, others joined him in wishing Pujara a happy birthday.
“Because of him, India won Tests in Australia and England”- Harbhajan Singh on Cheteshwar Pujara
Harbhajan Singh, a former Indian off-spinner, recently defended Cheteshwar Pujara and blasted the selectors for dismissing him from the Test team.
