Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was carried off the field during training camp practice Thursday. The former LSU No. 1 pick was seen holding his calf for a long time during practice before it was checked out by the coaches.
According to Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer, Burrows was eventually thrown off the field. Bengals head coach Zach Taylor said after practice it was a calf strain for Burrows.
The apparent injury comes as Burrows and the Bengals are in talks about a potentially historic contract extension. The former Heisman winner is set to enter a fifth-year option on his rookie contract worth $29.5 million.
What to know more?
Burrows was expected to sign the largest contract for a player in NFL history for some time after fellow 2020 draft pick Justin Herbert signed a five-year, $262.5 million contract extension with Los Angeles Chargers earlier in the week.
In week 11 of his rookie season, Burrows suffered an ACL, MCL, and LCP tear during a game against the Washington Football Team. He missed the rest of the season, but surprisingly managed to lead Cincinnati to the Super Bowl the following season as a sophomore.
As for this most recent injury, the video shows the play that saw Burrow go down. However, in the video, it appears to be a non-contact injury that forced Burrows to take the cart to end practice. The good news is that this is unlikely to force Burrows out of any regular-season action. Moreover, he is likely to be left out of the entire preseason roster, respectively.
