The Leading body of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) allegedly took input from MS Dhoni prior to choosing Ajinkya Rahane in Group India crew for the ICC World Test Title (WTC) last, booked to be played in June.
The news comes just a few days after the Mumbai batter was unexpectedly selected by BCCI for the ICC tournament. In 2021, Rahane made his last appearance for India in a three-match Test series on their tour of South Africa.
The right-given hitter was dropped from the crew following his unfortunate structure with the bat, where he figured out how to score just 136 runs in three Tests at a normal of 22.67 against the Proteas. In his last 15 Tests, Ajinkya Rahane has scored 547 runs at a normal of 23.7, including three half-hundreds of years.
The Mumbai-born cricketer, on the other hand, has been recalled due to his outstanding performance in the current IPL season. The senior batter, who plays for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has struck out 199 times in five games and scored 209 runs.
He has already scored half-centuries against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI), both of whom came in to win.Rahane may be the aggressor in the WTC summit fight because Suryakumar Yadav is out of the WTC final and Rishabh Pant is hurt.
Sunil Gavaskar: Ajinkya Rahane’s inclusion in the WTC squad is not due to his current IPL form.
Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of India, has spoken out in favor of the BCCI’s decision to include Ajinkya Rahane in Team India’s lineup for the WTC final. He stated that the selection of the right-handed batter is solely based on his performances in the Ranji Trophy.recently speaking with Star Sports.
The Indian team only needed to make that one change. They required a trade for Shreyas Iyer. Mind you, Ajinkya Rahane’s inclusion in the WTC squad is not due to his current IPL form.In the Ranji Trophy, he was in pretty good form. In the domestic season, he performed exceptionally well for Mumbai.
Ajinkya Rahane amassed 634 runs in seven games at a normal of 57.63, including two tons and 50 years for Mumbai in the last version of the Ranji Prize.
Rahane has a respectable Test record against Australia, scoring 1090 runs in 17 matches, including two centuries and five fifties. His inclusion could be a huge boost for India. In 15 Test matches played in England, Rahane has also scored 729 runs, including five half-centuries and a ton.
