N’Golo Kante, a Chelsea midfielder, may return to action before the end of February, according to reports. During the Blues’ 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur in their second game of the season, the veteran midfielder injured his hamstring. He has been out of action ever since.
The Frenchman was supposed to return early, but in October of last year, he hurt himself more. He also didn’t go to the FIFA World Cup with France in Qatar. According to L’Equipe, Kante may return to action before the end of February. Even though it’s still more than a month away, it would give manager Graham Potter a lot of confidence.
The English manager previously mentioned the injury to the midfielder:
Because we haven’t seen him, “my goal is to help him get back to his best as soon as possible and get him back on the pitch in the right way.”
Throughout the season, key players like Kante, Reece James, and Ben Chilwell have been out for extended periods, causing Chelsea to deal with numerous injuries. Conor Gallagher and Denis Zakaria have been utilized by Potter in the midfield, but the Blues have lacked Kante’s perseverance and experience.
They have been eliminated from all domestic cup competitions and are presently ranked 10th in the Premier League table. Since joining Chelsea from Leicester City in 2016, Kante, 31, has played in 262 games. Notably, he will be out of contract this summer with the west London club.
Chelsea is looking for midfield reinforcements:
The west London club will try to sign a midfielder this summer, according to The Telegraph. In January, they expressed an interest in signing Enzo Fernandez of Benfica, but the deal did not materialize. Matheus Nunes, a midfielder for Wolverhampton Wanderers, has previously been linked to Liverpool and Chelsea.
Last summer, the Reds attempted to sign him from Sporting CP, but he ended up signing with Wolves instead. This season, Nunes has made 24 appearances in various competitions, scoring once and providing two assists.
In the summer, he is likely to cost around £55 million. Additionally, the Blues are keeping an eye on Declan Rice of West Ham United and Moises Caicedo of Brighton & Hove Albion. The club’s contracts with Kante and Jorginho run out in the summer, and the latter is likely to leave. As a result, Chelsea wants to add midfield reinforcements this summer.
