In place of Kuldeep Yadav, Aakash Chopra has selected Ravindra Jadeja’s. As the Player of the Match for the first ODI between India and the West Indies.
The Windies’ middle and lower order was destroyed by Jadeja (3/37) and Kuldeep (4/6) as the hosts. Who had been invited to bat first, were dismissed for 114 in Bridgetown, Barbados, on Thursday, July 27. The goal was subsequently successfully chased down by Rohit Sharma and company with five wickets. And more than 27 overs remaining, giving them a 1-0 series lead.
In a video commentary of the match posted on his YouTube channel. Chopra expressed his opinion that Jadeja ought to have won the award instead of Kuldeep. He stated:
“Which player won the game? You would have recognized Kuldeep Yadav if you had seen the game because he only bowled three overs while picking up four wickets and allowing only six runs to be scored. Bravo, Kuldeep Yadav. However, Ravindra Jadeja is my Player of the Match.
Added him:
“You may ask, ‘Why? I believe that the Player of the Match should be determined by a set of guidelines or standards. Three wickets were taken by Ravindra Jadeja: Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer, and Romario Shepherd. His catches were legitimately large catches.
The former Indian opener elaborated on how the spin-bowling all-rounder not only defeated the more skilled hitters but also scored significant runs:
The numbers were 5, 6, and 7. These batters are thought to bat better than those in positions 8 through 11. He ended up scoring an undefeated 16 as well, and (Virat) Kohli would have been able to bat if he had been out as well. Just consider the possibility that it might have also occurred.
When Hardik Pandya’s wicket fell, Jadeja came out to bat with the score at 70/3. In a low-scoring contest. He led the visitors to victory with an unbeaten 16 off 21 balls and an uninterrupted 21-run sixth-wicket stand with Rohit Sharma (12* off 19).
When selecting Ravindra Jadeja’s as his Player of the Match, Aakash Chopra said, “I am not taking anything away from Kuldeep.”
Kuldeep Yadav cannot be held accountable for not being given the opportunity to bowl earlier in the innings, according to Aakash Chopra, who added:
Kuldeep is not losing anything because of me. The truth is that six hitters had already been struck out when he began to bowl. The fact that he didn’t eject the top-order hitters is not his fault.
He stated that Shai Hope was the only front-row batter Kuldeep dismissed, therefore Ravindra Jadeja receives his support. He stated:
He let Shai Hope go, which is great, but he also let Dominic Drakes, Jayden Seales, and Yannic Cariah go. Despite the fact that I adore Kuldeep dearly, I’ve chosen Ravindra Jadeja as the game’s Player of the Match.
When the West Indies were reasonably positioned at 88/3, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, and Romario Shepherd were all quickly bowled by Jadeja. Apart from Hope, Kuldeep then dismissed Dominic Drakes, Yannic Cariah, and Jayden Seales in a three-over span to end the Windies’ innings.
