BCCI Sources to InsideSport: Jasprit Bumrah’s Injury Serious & Can Be Doubtful for T20
BCCI Sources to InsideSport: India Squad T20 WC -JB Injury: India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is struggling to make it in time for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup due to a ‘back injury’. If he can’t recover in time, it will be a huge blow to the national team and their chances of success. Bumrah has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 but media reports suggest that this might be because of problems with his back.
Senior BCCI official says “It’s concerning. We need to keep an eye on his injury, which is probably his old one, and get him the best medical advice available.” At this point, it seems like how he manages it will play a role in whether or not they will go to the World Cup. It’s just two months away now.
The nagging bother Jasprit Bumrah has suffered due to his back injury, but he seems to have recovered from that, and played important games for India. However, the injury has come back to haunt him once again.
With a number of cricket tournaments in the coming months, India cannot afford to lose him. He broke his spine playing cricket and was only able to return after significant recovery time.
With an active injury history, Bumrah was always inching closer to his debut Test match. Recently though, there have been rosier updates and he has already debuted for India in 2018. In the coming months, it’s hard to say what will happen as anytime his back injury flares up, it can end his career prematurely.
Because of his head injury, Bumrah was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 and will undergo rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
Bumrah was sidelined by BCCI in 2019 after a minor injury. He will be available now that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is their only option.
With Bumrah and Harshal sidelined with injuries, India hopes to still call on the services of Mohammed Shami should they need an extra seamer in one-day games. Indian selectors are waiting to see how both Bumrah and Harshal do before deciding if Shami will be recalled to the playing XI.
With Shami getting older, it makes sense to delegate less of his workload to the younger pacers. If we had two injured pacers for a T20 series, we would want to use somebody like Shami, who is more reliable with cricket conditions. But since he was left out of the squad for another tour, there’s no need to call him yet – we’ll decide if needed later on.
