While power surge has been retained for BBL 2022-23, both rules like x-factor and Bash Boost have been done away with. In other words, the concept of a substitute player and a bonus point will no longer be stipulated this year. Surprisingly removal of the X factor happened less than a couple of weeks after BCCI announced the introduction of an impact player for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
All three rules are designed such that to maximize the enthusiasm throughout the full 40 years of a contest and ensure strategic thinking is rewarded.
X FACTOR PLAYER:

THE BASH BOOT:
Teams will now also be awarded three points for winning the match, as opposed to the traditional two. And the bash boost will be a bonus point that would be awarded halfway through the second innings. The team chasing will receive the bonus if they are above the equivalent 10-over score of their opposition.
THE POWER SURGE:
The power surge can be defined as a two-over period during which the fielding team is allowed only two players outside the inner fielding circle of the field. The betting side can call for this at any point from the 11th over of their innings. The fielding restrictions replicate those of the usual powerplay at the begging of the innings, which has been shortened to four overs.
