After a disappointing start, Barcelona’s summer signing is optimistic that he can turn things around at the club.
Barcelona star Franck Kessie is reportedly confident about redeeming himself after a lackluster start to his Camp Nou chapter.
Since joining Camp Nou on a free transfer from AC Milan earlier this summer, Kessie, 26, has not been able to secure a spot in the first team. He has started just five games across all competitions this season, scoring only once, with Gavi and Pedri preferred as regular starters.
During his five years in Milan, the Ivorian was a crucial starter for the Rossoneri and a tenacious presence in the middle of the field. He helped Stefano Pioli’s team win the Serie A title in 2021-2022 by scoring 37 goals and providing 16 assists in 223 games.
SPORT reports that Kessie is persuaded that he can fit into the plans of Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez for the second half of the current season. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup-induced break, he went through extensive training sessions with his trusted personal trainer in Ghana to recover from his recent hamstring injury.
He continued his return to full fitness with additional training sessions for himself when he returned to the Blaugrana’s Ciutat Esportiva complex earlier this month. He has already been discharged from the hospital, and his confidence in his ability to improve his situation at the club is growing.
The former Atalanta player was rumored to be unhappy at the La Liga giants and was linked with an unexpected winter move to Aston Villa prior to the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. However, he is now hopeful of making a positive contribution to the success of his team.
Barcelona, who are leading the 2022-23 La Liga standings with 37 points from 14 games, will begin their domestic campaign on Saturday (December 31) at home against Espanyol.
