Barcelona star ‘scared but OK’ after being attacked and robbed in violent home invasion
Barcelona star ‘scared but OK’ after being attacked and robbed in violent home invasion: Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fell victim to a violent armed robbery at his home. This incident happened in the early hours of the 29th of August 2022, the Spanish club said.
“He is ok now, scared but ok,” a Barcelona source told AFP and confirmed press reports.
Reportedly, four men are rumored to have broken into Aubameyang’s home in Castelldefels near Barcelona. They entered through the garden and threatened him and his wife with guns and iron bars, and hit him, daily El Pais reported.
They forced Aubameyang and his wife to open the safe. They took all the jewels that were inside and fled, the newspaper reported. The thieves escaped by car.
A spokeswoman for Catalan police, the Mossos d’Esquadra, confirmed that they were in charge of a violent robbery in Castelldefels. The officials refused to identify the victim, citing privacy rules.
“The investigation remains open and we are gathering information,” she told AFP.
Aubameyang was with FC Barcelona just hours before the incident. He was there for his game against Real Valladolid. He was appointed to be on the side and was an unused substitute in the team’s 4-0 victory.
Cops took the site under analysis and launched an investigation into the robbery. No arrests have been made.
The incident happened when Aubameyang is linked with a return to the Premier League after interest from Chelsea.
Several high-profile footballers in Spain have been victims of robberies. But in most cases, break-ins occur while the stars are playing.
In June police arrested six people in connection with the three-million-euro burglary of former Brazil forward Ronaldo’s house.
Paris Saint-Germain player Marco Verratti used to stay at Ronaldo’s house in Ibiza. He was not home when the burglars came in. They took jewelry and money.
Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has yet to publicly comment on this incident.
