Barcelona Budget crunch for transfer deals: One of the most famous clubs in the world is currently facing a financial crunch. They are in need of money to finalize the transfer window. Before the Spanish season opener, they need money to sign transfer deals. Last year in 2021, Club president Joan Laporta revealed that the club is $1.6 billion in debt.
To make it worse, the club owes player salaries more than its annual income. Last year Lionel Messi leaving Barcelona grabbed headlines across the globe. The reason Messi left the club was because they were unable to pay. They couldn’t sign him as per the LaLiga financial rules to keep the club running.
Barcelona needs money to register players
Barcelona has spent around $140 million in the summer transfer window this year. They got Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, Jules Kounde from Sevilla, and Raphinha from Leeds United.
They also included free transfers of Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen. They re-signed Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele after their deals expired. To play in the season, all these players need to be registered.
The transfer window is open till September 1. They have time till then to arrange money for registration. Barcelona had to satisfy some financial problems and it’s a big issue. To raise the money they have sold some assets including 49.5% of the media division, and 24.5% of Barca Studios to raise €100 Million. They need more than €60 to fulfill La Liga’s financial requirements.
Last month Manchester United agreed to pay €75 million as a transfer fee for Jong. He is a 25-year-old Dutch fielder who played exceptionally well under the current manager of Manchester at Ajax. If the deal went through Barcelona would have some money to register the signing forever United to sign with Barcelona.
