In the Shooting World Cup played in Baku, Indian shooters Swapnil Kusale and Ashi Chouksey performed amazingly. Indian players won the gold medal on the last day of the competition. That too while beating the shooters of Ukraine who have been facing Russia for the last 100 days. India’s campaign also came to an end with this gold which came on Saturday.
The Indian pair of Kusale-Ashi Chouksey won gold in the mixed event of 50m rifle three positions. The pair defeated Serhiy Kulish and Daria Tikhova of Ukraine 16-12. This is India’s second gold medal in this championship. Earlier, the trio of Elavenil Valarivan, Shreya Agarwal, and Ramita won the gold medal in the 10m Air Rifle Women’s Team event. Apart from this, Team India also won three silver medals in the tournament.
Swapnil’s medal hat-trick
Swapnil won the third medal in the Baku Shooting World Cup. This was his first gold. Earlier, Swapnil had won the silver medal in Men’s Rifle 3 Position and Men’s Team Competition. Swapnil and Aashi finished fourth in the mixed three-position rifle event. He had scored 881 out of 900. 31 teams took part in it.
Now Indian Rifle, Pistol, and Shotgun teams will take part in the fourth and final Changwon World Cup to be held next month. This will be followed by the World Championships at the end of the year.
Amazing come back of Indian pair
In the final, the Ukrainian pair made a strong start and took a 6-2 lead over the Indian pair. However, India came back after that and went on to win six of the next eight series to reduce the score to 14-10. Serhi and Daria didn’t give up and narrowed the gap to 14-12. However, after this, the Indian team won the match by securing points.
Double Gold in Medal Tally
After this medal, India’s name has become a double gold medal in the tally. He has also won three silvers. In this way, the team has finished second with five medals including two gold, and three silver, while Korea is in the first place with three gold and three bronze.
