Badminton World Calendar. Starting in 2022, the BWF World Tour Finals will be the final event of the season.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of several badminton events in the 2021 season, but the 2022 season promises to be just as exciting.
Last year, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour could hold only nine events due to the pandemic’s two waves. There are 31 tournaments on the BWF World Tour this year, concluding in the finals in China in December.
A great badminton season awaits after the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in July and August.
Many tournaments have been rescheduled by the BWF in order to lessen travel and illness risks in 2022.
Three tournaments in India will kick off the badminton season in 2022, marking the return to the country of big badminton events after a two-year absence.
There will be a slew of Indian badminton strong hitters competing in the BWF Super 500 India Open, which gets underway on January 11 in New Delhi. These include top seeds PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth, as well as the newly crowned world champion Loh Kean Yew from Singapore.
Event
Syed Modi International BWF Super 500 tournament in Lucknow is the next stop on the tour. There will be an Odisha Open Super 100 event to cap up India’s BWF World Tour stop there in the final week of January.
All four continental team championships for the men and women will be held in February. The Thomas and Uber Cup, the world team championship, will be held in May, and these events will act as qualifications.
There will be the first of three BWF Super 1000 tournaments this year at the All England Open, where Lakshya Sen made it to the quarterfinals last time.
Afterwards, the caravan will stop in Switzerland and France before making its way to South Korea in April, where it will attend the Korea Open and Korea Masters.
It’s possible that defending champion and Olympic gold medalist Carolina Marin will return to the court at the European Championships in April.
Meanwhile, the Indonesia Open Super 1000 and Indonesia Masters Super 500 tournaments have been shifted from December to June in a dramatic reorganisation from the previous season.
Prior to Birmingham’s Commonwealth Games opening on July 28, the tour will continue in Asia. With four gold, three silver, and a bronze from the last edition, Indian shuttlers will be among the favourites again this year.
The Badminton World Championships begin on August 21 in Japan and will take place throughout August and September. Both Lakshya Sen (third) and Kidambi Srikanth (second) earned medals in the 2021 World Championships.
There are a few remaining events that can help players qualify for the BWF World Tour Finals, which comprises the top eight players and pairs from each category.
Guggenheim will host the final BWF World Tour Finals of the season beginning on December 14.
