Babar Azam’s, the captain of Pakistan, opened up about his batting struggles against Prabath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka during the two-match Test series between the two Asian nations.
In the island nation, Babar struggled mightily at the plate, scoring just 76 runs in three innings at an average of 25.33. In all three instances, the cunning spinner Jayasuriya got rid of him.
Since they first faced off in 2022, Azam has faced the Sri Lankan left-arm spinner six times, and he averages 28.7 (172 runs) overall against her. Babar Azam discussed the difficulties faced by the new spin sensation from Sri Lanka in a post-series press conference.
“If he bowls 50 overs for the entire game, I’m going to mess up somewhere. He is a top bowler for Sri Lanka. He has in fact frequently dismissed me, but I have also sought to improve that. Additionally, I scored runs in the latter innings.”
Babar added that, aside from himself, several Pakistani hitters had demonstrated remarkable intent against Jayasuriya. Added him:
“I was the only one to reach out to him. But our hitters thoroughly outplayed and outplayed him. Together, we succeeded. If I am having trouble, it means that others have stepped up, which is good for me as the captain.”
Pakistan defeats Sri Lanka in a series behind Babar Azam‘s
Pakistan thrashed Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the second Test to win all three games there by a combined score of 2-0. The team captained by Babar Azam got the current World Test Championship (WTC) cycle off to a successful start.
Abdullah Shafique, Pakistan’s opener, smashed his first double-century (201) to propel his team to a massive 410-run advantage in the first innings. Thanks to Noman Ali’s astounding career-best stats (7 for 70), the visitors defeated Dimuth Karunaratne and his men for 188.
Before hosting the Asia Cup together with Sri Lanka in 2023, Pakistan doesn’t have any further bilateral series in any format.
