Ayeera Chishti of J&K wins a historic bronze medal at the world junior wushu championship
At the international competition held in Banton, she became the first female athlete from Jammu & Kashmir to take home the Mackenzie medal.
Chishti has consistently taken home medals from national competitions and has attended numerous national level camps. At an earlier International Wushu Championship in Georgia, she had brought home a gold medal for India.
Chishti, who expressed her joy at winning the contest, told IANS that it gave her great pride to represent her nation in the international competition and to come out on top. “I am thrilled to have received a medal on behalf of Jammu & Kashmir and my nation.”
Rais Chishti, the father of Ayeera Chishti, described it as a tremendous accomplishment and a happy occasion for him, saying, “This is a joyful moment for me and my entire family.
“I am really proud of my daughter for making history by becoming the first female from Jammu and Kashmir to accomplish this achievement. I’m pleased of my daughter, who has previously received national and worldwide recognition for the nation.”
Coach Asif from the IRA thanked CEOs Kuldeep Handu of the Wushu Association of J&K and the Wushu Association of India for their help in making this possible.
It’s like a dream come true for a coach like myself that you all are recognising great potential, so thank you very much. We overcame numerous challenges and succeeded again. But there are still a lot of objectives to meet,” Asif stated.
